Karnan is a 2021 Indian Tamil- language action drama film directed by Mari Selvaraj. It is produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under the banners of V Creations. The film star Dhanush, Lal, Natarajan Subramaniam, Yogi Babu, and Rajisha Vijayan are in title roles. The music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan.

The film was released in January 2020, after a short pre-production period, with the title Karnan also confirmed. The majority of the film takes place in the rural Thoothukudi area. Following its release, the film was shot and finished in December 2020, despite the fact that filming was delayed due to the epidemic. It received critical acclaim upon its theatrical premiere on April 9, 2021, with appreciation for the plot, characters, location, excellent use of symbolism, director, performances, and serious technological components of the picture. Karnan Movie Storyline

The narrative begins with a young girl in the center of the street, and without any passing vehicles stopping to support her, and she eventually dies. As a whole town prays for the release of its beloved Karnan, who is being brutalised by the police.  The pictures then transition to 1997, when we meet Karnan, a young guy who, like the rest of his community, is enraged by the tyranny of the local men, who prohibit even a bus from stopping for them, preventing the young from studying or working outside. What ‘Karnan’ is about is that the upper caste men’s tyranny and repression, aided by the government, compels this ordinary person to spark a revolt and convert him into the savior of his community.

Karnan made a total of 10.40 crore at the box office in 1st day, which was Dhanush’s best opening ever. Despite a 50% occupancy cap, the picture grossed Rs. 25.60 crores in its first weekend thanks to good word-of-mouth. The video had a positive reaction from audiences in rural areas, resulting in increased collections. The additional limits for theatres in order to minimise pandemonium had a significant impact on the film’s box office revenues, with the film collecting a total of 46 crore in Tamil Nadu alone in the first eleven days of its release.

The film’s Satellite Rights were sold to Zee Tamil, while the film’s Digital Rights were purchased by Amazon Prime Video. On May 14, 2021, it was streamed on Amazon Prime Video. On the occasion of Independence Day, it aired on Zee Tamil at 6:00 p.m.

Karnan Movie Review

Karnan is a lengthy film, clocking in at about 2.5 hours.. The pace in the first half, when Selvaraj depicts and praises daily life, may be a concern for some. The romantic scenes with Draupadi are the movie’s roughest, but still it forgives itself with the manner roles of women are portrayed. Yaeman, Karnan’s grandpa, is the link between both the history and the future, and Lal portrays him. The interactions that combines with Dhanush have a warmth and earthiness within them. The remainder of the ensemble is fantastic, notably Poo Ramasamy there is no bigger rhetoric than Ramasamy’s secrecy in the roles he calls to mind.

Mari Selvaraj, understandably, is enraged. But he uses all of his pent-up wrath to create a great work of art. He seems to be lot more at peace with his trade now.
