Joe Bell Movie Storyline

Jadin Bell, a youngster from LaGrande, Oregon, informs his father, Joe, that he is being tormented at school because he is homosexual. Joe reminds him that he should know how to protect himself and that everything will work out in the end. Lola, Jadin’s mother, disagrees and tells him that he is loved. Jadin is allowed to join the cheering team by Joe and Lola, although he is aware of his father’s humiliation. Joe later tells Jadin that he loves him and that he will make an effort to be a better person.

A gang of jocks is harassing Jadin. Jadin performs at the football game, but the audience jeers him. Joe does nothing except take Lola from the stands and go. Jadin is subjected to social media persecution at home. Joseph, his younger brother, consoles him. Joe delivers a talk on tolerance and the destructive effects of bullying at a high school nine months later. From the back of the theater, Joe’s mental guide, Jadin, keeps an eye on him. Following that, Joe and Jadin set up camp beside the roadway for the night. Jadin chastises him for lying in his remarks.

Joe Bell Movie Review

The story goes backwards in time, from Joe on the road, where he whips up interest on social media and performs Lady Gaga songs with Jadin, to Joe’s home in Oregon, where the boy continues to be harassed and Joe doesn’t pay attention to anything. There’s a horrible scenario in the boys’ locker room, as well as another with a school administrator who refuses to do anything about it.

Joe Bell is an entertaining drama with a few melancholy moments but never goes beyond its conventional heart wrenching drama. Sure, hanky-panky has its place, but Wahlberg is most likely the bottleneck to empathic sadness, since he hits enough bass lines to render the persona squishy, poorly, and little shallow. His Joe Bell is on a journey of growth, enlightenment, and compassion, leaving wrath, fear, and ignorance aside. I appreciate the character’s need for transparency, yet his inner turmoil stays hidden beneath the traditional straight-shooting honesty and loutish tickle of prevalent cliches.
