In the Heights follows a cast of characters who live in the Washington Heights neighborhood on Manhattan’s northern tip. The plot of the play is generally followed, the film makes certain adjustments, such as keeping Usnavi and Vanessa at the center rather than Nina and Benny. The songs and dances are vibrant and captivating. The microgravity is stunning, while ‘Carnaval del Barrio’ makes you want to dance. In the Heights moves in to fill the void left by Indian films’ abandonment of all those beautifully choreographed numbers.
The ensemble cast is pleasing to the eye. Miranda portrays the piragüero, who distributes ice – cream desserts from a vividly colored cart that resembles the ice-cream man from childhood holidays.
