Aman Tripathi is a Delhi-based marketer who comes from a traditional Allahabad middle-class family. Shankar Tripathi, his father, is a traditionalist agro scientist who has just developed some black cauliflowers. Sunaina Tripathi, his mother, is a homemaker who is constantly worried about her kid. His uncle Chaman, aunt Champa, their daughter Rajni “Goggle” Tripathi, cousin Keshav, and others make up the combined family. Kartik Singh is Aman’s true love, and he lives with him in Delhi. Sunaina invites him to Goggle’s wedding to Ashok one day. Sunaina and Shankar want to marry Aman to Kusum Nigam, the daughter of a family acquaintance. The filmy appeal of a vivacious Kartik and his strict, but likeable, boyfriend Aman tries to force a broad grin out of you in the first scene of this romantic comedy. The pair can be seen pursuing a train to Allahabad, where they would face an additional hurdle with the latter’s family and society’s traditional thinking.
The attitude and tone are mainly humorous and puny, with dramatization that works at moments but sometimes seems a touch too far-fetched. Furthermore, while the film is largely focused on a small-town drama about the taboo surrounding same-gender relationships, the writer-director neglects to include features unique to tiny towns like Allahabad, and instead confines the storey to a single traditional household. The filmmaker rips away the possibility of SMZS becoming a realistic watch by neglecting the riddle of the religious center and all it has to offer in the way of sensory and visual engagement.
