As the next great pair of cricket batters, Radha and Manjunath are two brothers who have been taught by their father. Their father determines it’s time for them to relocate to Mumbai and try to get chosen to participate in domestic leagues during the forthcoming selection season after playing with the bowling attacks of their small rural teams.

August 2017 saw the announcement of the series. On October 8, 2018, a 16-second teaser was made available. The first six episodes of Selection Day debuted on Netflix on December 28. The second part, which consists of six further episodes, debuted on April 19, 2019. All of this adds up to a season’s second half that is only slightly better than the first, but that doesn’t really say much considering the low bar Selection Day set for itself with its awful first half. It is tough to argue for novices given how disappointing its debut was, but if you have already seen the first batch, you can be confident that things don’t get much worse.

Selection Day had an extremely plodding, almost dull and unnatural pace in parts sections and got too real too quickly in some areas. There were too many circumstances interacting with one another and there was significantly less clarity. It was a complicated jumble of several personalities and narratives that, at some point, just ceased making sense. Most crucially, Selection Day at that time just didn’t have anything genuinely novel to give.
Nevertheless, the creators and actors in particular performed a wonderful job. And we can only hope for the best for them. The show also had societal importance, and it was almost humorous in its depiction of the demands parents make on their kids and how taxing it can be. Or, perhaps this was it.
